The International Conference on the Physics of Dusty Plasmas was founded in 1996 in response to a dramatic growth of interest in this new research field, triggered by the discovery of liquid and crystalline plasmas in 1994. Dusty plasmas are ubiquitous indeed – they occur in various natural environments, e.g. in interstellar media, protoplanetary disks, magneto- and ionospheres of planets, cometary tails etc. On the other hand, they are employed as systems to study numerous fundamental processes occurring in plasmas as well as in condensed matter, such as waves and instabilities, liquid structure and dynamics, phase transitions, etc. The term "complex plasmas" is broadly used in the literature to identify dusty plasmas specially "designed" for such laboratory investigations. And, of course, dusty plasma research is important for various applications, like the formation of designer nanoparticles, polymorphous solar cells, cleaning of soot particles from waste lines, or fusion physics.

We invite all scientists working in the field of dusty (complex) plasmas to attend ICPDP 2011 in the Congress-Center of Garmisch-Partenkirchen - a beautiful city in the Bavarian foothills of the Alps. Moreover, this time we plan to extend the scope of the Conference towards interdisciplinary topics which are now playing increasingly important role in the complex plasma research, such as soft matter, fluid physics, nanofluidics, etc.

We hope to see you all in May in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
